Join Detroit Eviction Defense, Moratorium Now!, an Join Detroit Eviction Defense, Moratorium Now!, and Detroit Tenants Association to build solidarity through a united mass movement in the housing struggle. We're tired of jumping from crisis to crisis. We need to connect and work together to change the system. We'll be rallying Feb 5 10AM at Redmond Plaza (Second & Seldan) to raise our voices together and build a united front. Come hear from tenants, activists, and coalitions on how we can come together to make Detroit a better place for working class people. It'll be cold but we'll have snacks, hand warmers, and hot drinks. We're coming together to fight against retaliatory evictions, unsafe living conditions, water shutoffs, and gentrification; we'll be fighting for a fully funded and implemented Right to Counsel, the Right to Renew, and for rent control.

WEEK 2 HOME DEFENSE UPDATE: We've been out round t WEEK 2 HOME DEFENSE UPDATE: We've been out round the clock watching for any signs of the dumpster and keeping Ms. Brown company. Lots of good conversations amongst comrades about how to build and grow, how to avoid burnout, how to connect more to each other and the community. While on watch, folks have been playing music, sharing poetry, roasting marshmallows and making friends. We are seeing how solidarity in defense of Taura's home is also making space for radical joy, love and connection. It can be tedious and anxiety-inducing to wait on the writ or a potential hearing, but we are still showing up. Our hope is that the new judge is reviewing the case and preparing for a hearing that may result in the dismissal of the case entirely. That being said, we still need more hands on deck for in person defense shifts, donated supplies (food, hand warmers, etc), and to call/email Fowler and demand she stop the eviction. On Taura's last hearing on December 19, 2022, Judg On Taura's last hearing on December 19, 2022, Judge Alicia Jones-Coleman stated she would sign the writ, but that the eviction couldn't start until Monday, January 9, 2023. As we were preparing for the eviction to start then, we kicked off our home defense with a press conference. We were able to get some media coverage on the retaliatory eviction against Taura Brown, as well as our organized efforts to keep Miss Brown in her home. We hope that between the media and the daily 6am shifts, we can stop the judge from signing the writ entirely. Taura filed multiple motions to try to delay or dismiss her case, we are hoping at the very least to have another hearing. The judge may be reassigned, as Judge Jones-Coleman was removed from the Landlord-Tenant docket, which could work in our favor to get another hearing and to buy some time. As we wait on the signing of the writ or any direction of what's going on in this case, we have been able to find radical joy and community building as we come together to support Taura Brown. We will stay vigilant and prepared for whatever is to come our way. #evictiondefense #casscommunitysocialservices #casscommunity #housingforall #evictionisviolence #riseupfightback #detroit

Link in bio: We are asking our beloved Detroit com Link in bio: We are asking our beloved Detroit community and beyond for help in supporting lifelong Detroiters Carolyn Carter and her daughter KC. We launch this fundraiser on December 24th, which also happens to be Carolyn's birthday. The Carter’s have been displaced multiple times: first as homeowners because of Detroit’s illegal over-assessment of homes, then displaced several times as tenants–losing everything due to a fire in one rental home and losing their last home with serious maintenance and code violations in an Eviction. That home was foreclosed on and ended up in the hands of the Detroit Land Bank, which sold the home to the landlord that eventually harassed and evicted them in August of 2021. They paid to live in a hotel for over a year while working and looking for housing. Spending too much on hotels led to car maintenance issues and eventually, they lost both jobs. The City only recently began helping with hotel funding and is threatening to cut it off by January 4th, 2023, which will displace Carolyn and KC once more. Please join us as we surround the Carter family with community care so they can go home again and continue to fight for the Right to Housing alongside fellow Detroiters. Your donation will help them secure housing again, by helping with a deposit, moving costs, and funds to fix their car.

Emergency solidarity is needed for Jessica Coleman Emergency solidarity is needed for Jessica Coleman and her five children who are experiencing an illegal eviction from their home in Detroit. Their heat was shut off two weeks ago after their landlord sold their home to a new owner, and now they are being threatened with an illegal eviction within 24 hours by a "squatter removal service" even though they have a lease, are not squatters, and are at the very least entitled to a month's notice and the normal court process before being evicted.

Jessica's CashApp is $PrettywithDimples87 and we are encouraging everyone to donate what they can to help with the costs of moving, storage, and finding a warm place to stay for the family which includes children who are one, four, and eight years old.

In addition to this, we are encouraging everyone to call the current property manager at 586-207-9212 and demand that they call off the illegal eviction and restore heat to the home on 16011 Manning Street in Detroit as soon as possible.
