Taura Brown has been fighting an unjust, retaliato Taura Brown has been fighting an unjust, retaliatory eviction order for two years. Despite running a program that promised Taura home ownership, Faith Fowler and Cass Community Services persisted in running a program for serfdom, demanding silence for housing. They finally convinced a judge to evict Taura starting April 3rd. But the fight is not over. Starting April 3 we will stand with Taura in a home defense. Come out April 2nd to learn about how home defenses can be successful and how to participate, or contact DED for more information. Community is stronger than any court or landlord!

Image id: illustration of protestors gathering outside Taura's home. It says Join Taura Brown's Defense 1553 Monterey. Community social April 2 at 3pm. final home defense begins April 3 at 6am. Press conference April 3 at 9am.
Update from yesterday's hearing. Judge Jacque said Update from yesterday's hearing. Judge Jacque said it was "inappropriate" for Taura to request reasonable accommodation under the Fair Housing Act which appears to be saying a person with disability has no right to request the protections and rights under the Fair Housing Act in Detroit. The judge also referenced the Frenchtown Villa case to affirm it is OK for Fowler to retaliate against Taura and evict her, so it appears retaliation is also OK in Detroit. None of this is ok, stay tuned.
Tune in y’all, Today 2pm at the church 2120 Russ Tune in y’all, Today 2pm at the church 2120 Russell St or on zoom, Judge Jacque.
UPDATE: Taura Brown’s hearing was adjourned to T UPDATE: Taura Brown’s hearing was adjourned to Tuesday March 21st at 2:00pm. We are hopeful this time around Taura is given the floor to actually speak to the court and lay down the facts. She is ready and we are standing behind her every step of the way. Join us next Tuesday over zoom or at the church 2120 Russell St. See you there
Over the last several weeks we’ve been operating Over the last several weeks we’ve been operating Taura Brown’s home defense round the clock. Recently, the court scheduled a hearing for Taura in response to the various motions she filed. It will take place on March 17th at 2:00pm with Judge Shawn Jacques. We are in deep support of Brown staying in her home and getting ownership as was promised. Taura deserves a fair hearing where she can defend herself against this retaliatory and racist eviction.

We ask you join this court hearing & press conference to show support for Taura Brown. May this be a space to speak truth to power.
Highlights from yesterday’s reparations meeting. Highlights from yesterday’s reparations meeting. We discussed how to engage more people in this conversation and planning, what is owed beyond reparations specifically for Detroiters (overtaxation, foreclosure theft, etc), and why it is critical to build a mass movement of impacted folks to get traction on this type of structured funding. The conversation continues and we will meet again Saturday, March 18th. Join us at the table #ReparationsNow
